During the summer of 2020, I worked as a runner for the behind-closed-doors professional tennis events at the National Tennis Centre. The Progress Tour Women’s Championships brought together some of the best female tennis players in Great Britain and the Battle of the Brits Team Event included players such as Andy Murray, Jamie Murray and Johanna Konta. In my role, I helped out wherever I could for the event staff, the media and the players. I was lucky enough to delve into lots of areas of the event which allowed me to get a feel for the varying types of jobs at a sporting event that was broadcasted on BBC Sport. One thing I took from this experience in particular was the extent of work that goes on behind the scenes to make the event run smoothly. The fact that no event is run successfully without a huge amount of hard work before, during and after was a great lesson to learn.
